Monday | Psalm 103
This psalm is a beautiful affirmation of who God is, of the power of God’s love and forgiveness, and of the relationship God desires with us. Read the Psalm aloud and speak these truths over yourself. What verse really stood out to you, and why? How does God demonstrate his care for us, according to this Psalm? And what does it mean for us to bless the Lord who fully blesses us?

Tuesday | Lamentations 3:21-33
Jeremiah, the author of Lamentations, went through immense suffering as a prophet to God’s people. He was burdened for their suffering- and also punished by them for speaking such harsh truth. Yet he remained close. Lamentations is his deep prayer of pain. What stuck out to you from this passage, and what could you personally relate to? How did Jeremiah make sense of his suffering under the all-powerful God? Have you ever had a time where these words felt like they apply to you? How does this passage instruct us in our hurt, pain, and heartache?

Wednesday | Matthew 9:35-38
Jesus felt compassion for the people. That’s what continually drove him forward. What was Jesus’ solution to the pain and hurt he saw in the people around him?  If Jesus had compassion on them, what about you and our world today? What healing are you seeking in Jesus? Why does Jesus want us to pray for more people to be sent into the “harvest” of peace?

Thursday | 2 Corinthians 1:3-11
Our compassion is rooted in the love of our heavenly Father toward us in Jesus Christ. No matter what we personally deal with, we can share the healing, redemptive, and life-changing power of God’s love. Do you believe it is a privilege to share in the suffering of others, just as Jesus has chosen to share in ours? Why or why not? Why do you think we need to experience God’s comfort to share true, loving care? Who in your life needs the comfort of Christ, and how can you share that with them?

Friday | Philippians 2:1-4
The Christian faith is anchored in a compassionate, encouraging community. How have you experienced that in a church? In what ways have you yourself participated in sharing that love with others? Which of your own interests (v.4) keep you from seeing others’ needs, and how can you change your focus?
