Monday | Genesis 2:18-25
God made both male and female, and God made each for the other. God instituted marriage, a “one flesh” union, so that a person would have help, a refuge, another person on (and, in Adam’s case, from!) their side. What about this inspires and excites you? Why do you think it’s not good for man to be alone? How does this orient us to a God who is three-in-one?
Tuesday | Song of Solomon 8:6-7
The Song of Solomon is a love story, ultimately pointing us to God’s love for his people. What do you find compelling about romantic love as a metaphor for God’s love? On what should we be building our desire and passion? How can we as Christians center our passionate love first in God’s divine love for us, and find our satisfaction in his care?
Wednesday | Mark 10:1-9
People aren’t willing to risk their hearts in love- that’s why Moses allowed divorce, Jesus said. Now, there are valid reasons for divorce, but Jesus’ answer here forces us to wrestle with the posture of our own hearts in the everyday grind of life. What is Jesus’ argument against divorce in this passage? How can softening our hearts improve our relationships? What is one way you plan to soften your heart this week?
Thursday | Ephesians 5:22-33
Paul instructs us that marriage is a picture of Christ and the Church. It’s mysterious, but just as father and mother point to our Creator God, so marriage points to our Savior who has come to rescue us and win our hearts. How does Jesus’ love for you impact your dating and/or marriage? In what ways is your relationship reflecting God’s love? In what ways is it not? What is one thing you can do to risk a better marriage or relationship?
Friday | Revelation 22:16-17
The Scriptures end with a wedding invite. “Come!” Come to what? A wedding of course! When was the last wedding you attended? What was it like? What parts of it were a picture of heaven and God’s eternal celebration? Reflecting on the fact that Jesus’ first miracle in the Gospel of John was at a wedding, what miracle are you asking God to work in your romantic relationship or your heart as it pertains to desire?
