Week of August 31, 2025
Our final Word for the Journey is PEACE. How fitting that we end with our church’s name. Peace captures the sense of wholeness and completion that God desires for each of us. In fact, Jerusalem, the most important city in the Scriptures, means “city of peace,” and Scripture says that God is bringing a new “City of Peace” down from heaven on the Last Day. But in the meantime, we face war, pain, suffering, and hardship. But we hold firmly to the peace we have in Jesus’ victory.
Monday | Psalm 91:1-10
We have a refuge in hardship- a place of peace and confidence at all times in Jesus. How do these verses strengthen and encourage you? What image speaks to you the most, and why? (i.e., the snare of the trapper, because I’ve trapped foxes before) Why is time with Jesus so pivotal to our experience of peace?
Tuesday | Psalm 91:11-16
There may be real evil in the world, but there are also spiritual forces protecting and helping us. How would it change your life if you could actually see the angels surrounding you and protecting you? How has God shown you his salvation? Who is one person who needs the peace that Psalm 91 offers? Spend time praying for them - an opportunity to encourage them.
Wednesday | Matthew 4:1-10
Jesus withstood the temptations of the devil, even at his weakest. Jesus used Psalm 91 for strength when the devil tried to use it for destruction. Why do you think God allowed Jesus to be tempted? What would have been the hardest temptation for you to withstand? How could Scripture become a more powerful tool for you in the face of temptation and hardship?
Thursday | John 16:31-33
Jesus declared that he has overcome the world, and this is cause for us to have courage and peace. Why do you think hardship troubles us so much as humans, given that Jesus told us it was coming? What situations in your life require more courage from you? What “worldly” things might you be using to find peace, outside of Jesus?
Friday | Luke 10:18-20
Jesus encouraged his disciples to find their joy in their names being written in heaven. Why do you think this should be the basis of our peace, and not our own abilities or actions? How does Jesus make the battle with evil out to be - is it a fair fight? How are you battling (or could be battling) against the spiritual darkness that surrounds us?
