Words for the Journey covers biblical words that define and support our spiritual walk with Jesus, and can be powerful words in our prayer life. This week, we explore the concept of “wisdom.” People search for wisdom from many sources, but the Bible is clear that wisdom is ultimately found in God and his ways.  Like King Solomon, let us learn to pray for wisdom and trust God to bless us with wisdom for the journey.

Monday | Proverbs 2:1-11
I
n the book of Proverbs, wisdom and understanding are repeatedly connected to having a personal and committed connection with God. In what ways has your relationship with Jesus brought wisdom to your life? How does this promise that God has wisdom that he wants to share encourage you today?

Tuesday | James 1:5-8 & 3:13-18
God promises wisdom for those who ask. In what areas of life could you use more wisdom? How often are you reaching out to God in prayer for His wisdom to guide you? How does the description of wisdom in verse 3:17 strike you? Which of the descriptors would you most like to manifest more in your life? Why?

Wednesday | 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 & 1 Corinthians 2:6-13
How have you seen the wisdom of God’s salvation in the cross, mocked or ridiculed by the world?  What other wisdom of God is often not accepted by those who do not believe in Him? In what ways are you tempted to discount God’s wisdom for your thinking or that of the culture? How do you combat that kind of temptation? How has God’s wisdom felt like a secret or mystery that has been revealed to you?  What mysteries of God’s wisdom would you like to have more clearly revealed?

Thursday | 1 Kings 3:3-15
What impresses you about King Solomon’s prayer? How might you take his prayer as a model for your prayer life? God’s gift of wisdom transformed Solomon, as demonstrated in his life. How might asking for and receiving wisdom from God change the way you live and respond to people and situations in your life?

Friday | Ephesians 3:7-13
The mysterious wisdom of God has been revealed in Jesus Christ, and now is meant to be openly revealed to all, through the church. How do we, as God’s people, learn to live more boldly to live out the wisdom of God? How do we best share God’s wisdom with others who do not yet know or trust in Him? In what ways might God be calling you to live out and share His wisdom with others around you?
