Week of May 31, 2026

Monday | Leviticus 25:1-13 & 23-28
In his instructions to observe Sabbaths and the year of Jubilee, God shows a great desire for all to recognize his goodness and to enjoy a life of wholeness and freedom. What do the provisions of restoration in the Jubilee year show about how God wants us to care for our own Christian communities? What benefits do you see in spending time specifically to remember and celebrate what God has provided for you in the past week? How about the past 10, 20, or even 50 years?  How could we celebrate the spirit of Jubilee today, when it comes to caring for others in need?

Tuesday | Luke 4:16-29  (Isaiah 61:1-4)
Many Biblical scholars believe the phrase, “the year of the Lord’s favor,” is at least in part a reference to the year of Jubilee.  How did the earthly ministry of Jesus fulfill these promises in a tangible way? In what ways can you say that Jesus’ words apply to your life today? How does the work of Jesus fulfill the acts of restoration, new life, and celebration of Jubilee in a lasting way?

Wednesday | Galatians 5:1-13
God teaches that sin and trying to prove ourselves to God through the law are binding forces. Jesus brings freedom from it all.  In what ways have you felt the bonds of sin holding you back from a sense of freedom? In what ways has the forgiveness and salvation of the Gospel helped you feel freer? What do you still need God to set you free from? How can knowing Jesus’ grace make a difference?

Thursday | Luke 7:36-30
How big is your “debt” that God has forgiven? Why do we tend to focus on the debts/sins of others rather than the greatness of God’s grace and forgiveness for them?

Friday | Colossians 2:8-15
Paul reminds us of the new eternal life we enjoy because Jesus canceled the debt of our sin. What connections do you see between this passage and Jesus’ reading from Isaiah? How will you celebrate God’s restoring and life-giving power at work in your life?
