Monday | Psalm 50:1-15
This psalm reminds us of the strength, glory, honor, and dignity of the Lord of heaven and earth. When are you tempted to make God smaller than he is? What “sacrifices” have you made in hopes of convincing God to do what you want? How did it go? If you have nothing else to give, give thanks to God (v.14), and call upon him in the day of trouble.

Tuesday | Job 1:20-22
Job lost everything: house and home, family, businesses. These verses were all he had to hold onto: nothing was his in the first place. What do you believe is “yours”? How does Job’s story and confession reorient you to the things and people in your life? If they really are God’s first and foremost, what do you need to do differently with the things and relationships God has given you?

Wednesday | 1 Timothy 6:6-19
Paul says contentment is the dividing line between “too much” and “not enough.” It doesn’t really matter how much you have, but what you have in your heart. Why do you think it’s the desire to be rich that destroys, and not riches themselves? How can we foster contentment within our hearts and families? What good things is God calling you to do with your resources?

Thursday | Mark 10:17-22
The rich young ruler was desperate to know whether he would inherit eternal life, but that inheritance is guaranteed by the d’ death. Why do you think Mark says Jesus looked at him and loved him? What do you think he was lacking that Jesus told him to sell everything he had? What in your life is hindering you from following Jesus more closely?

Friday | Mark 6:30-44
Jesus radically demonstrates that God can do anything, that God can provide, that God wants to take care of us. Why do you think Jesus commands his disciples to give them something to eat? What do we learn from wrestling with our great needs and our inability to have everything we need apart from God? Reflect on a time God has miraculously provided for you, and “offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving” (Ps. 50:14) to our loving God.
