Week 4 | Hope

We continue this week with a Scripture study focused on a selection of words (themes) from the twelve prayer stations now scattered around the Peace property, which we are calling the Prayer Path. These are words which certainly inspire prayer, but more than that, these themes are central to our entire journey with Jesus. This week’s focus is on hope.

Monday | Psalm 42:1-5

Reading between the lines just a bit, what do you think might have been troubling the psalm writer? What does the writer long for? (vs.1-2) What does the writer remember that gives reason for hope? (v.4) What gives you cause for hope in troubled times? What are “hope practices” for you?

Tuesday | Isaiah 40:27-31

When have you felt like God was ignoring your situation?  What is God’s response through the prophet Isaiah in this passage?  How is God described in these verses?  What does it mean to you as a Christian to “soar on wings like eagles”?

Wednesday | Romans 5:1-8

What allows God’s people to rejoice even in suffering (vs.1,6-8)? In what ways have you seen growth in perseverance, character, and hope through the difficulties in your life? Why is it the common experience of many Christians that it is times of struggle rather than calm that leads to greater faith development?

Thursday | Ephesians 1:15-23

What is the basis for the Christian hope (see especially v.20)?  In your life’s journey, what has especially opened your eyes to the hope that is yours in Jesus?  How has God’s resurrection power impacted your life in the past?   In what areas of your life do you hope for more of his power to be experienced in the present?

Friday | Romans 8:18-25

What kinds of suffering (personal or otherwise) have led you to groan inwardly (or perhaps outwardly)? In terms of redemption/liberation from such suffering, what are you most hoping for in this season? How have you experienced the presence of the Spirit in times of suffering? What helps you stay patient and keep hoping?
