“Salvation Belongs to our God”: God’s Saving Work
The Book of Revelation provides a vivid overview of “God’s grand plan to defeat evil, rescue his people, and transform his creation.” This week, we focus on a central strand that binds not only Revelation but the entire Bible: SALVATION. God’s work of saving the world through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is arguably the most joyful message that we share. Salvation offers forgiveness, peace with God, eternal hope, and a host of other benefits. We are saved!
Monday | Isaiah 49:5-7
In this passage, which many believe speaks of the coming Messiah, God says that he will send his servant not just to reach Israel but also to be a “light for the nations.” How do you think ancient Israel would have reacted to this promise of God’s global saving work? How do we, as American Christians, react today? How does this passage motivate not only local evangelism but global mission outreach?
Tuesday | Acts 13:23-39
Here, Paul and Barnabus bring the Gospel story to their fellow Jews in what is today central Turkey. How is Jesus identified in v.23? How did God accomplish this salvation? What was God offering to people through Jesus’s saving work (v.38-39)? What does it mean to you that you are “justified” before God?
Wednesday | Romans 1:16-17
What gives Paul confidence in the Gospel? How do we receive the gift of salvation? Does this seem too easy? What does having saving faith mean for you?
Thursday | Revelation 7:9-16
How does the language of v.9 echo what we learned earlier this week in Isaiah 49? What’s the meaning of the saints wearing “white robes”? How does the fact that salvation belongs to God impact our own approach to God? How do we wash our robes “in the blood of the Lamb”? In what ways does God feed your soul and give you living water in your present life? … in the life to come?
Friday | Revelation 12:7-12
We read the same passage a couple of weeks ago from the perspective of victory; today, through the lens of salvation. Who does God save us from? How do you understand the idea of being part of God’s kingdom? What does it mean to overcome the power of Satan “by the blood of the Lamb”? … and by our word of testimony? What does receiving salvation lead us to do (see v.11)?
