Monday | Psalm 2
Jesus has ALL authority in heaven and earth. All nations and governments are ultimately subject to him. What peace can this give us? As a representative republic/democracy, what burden does this give us? How does it empower proper worship to recognize Jesus as our ultimate King?

Tuesday | John 18:33-19:11
Ultimately, the Roman government condemned and executed Jesus- even as the leaders of the Jews begged them. And Jesus submitted to it, to show that nothing can defeat the power and plan of God. What do you notice about the interaction of religious leaders and the political leader? If you were Pilate, how would you have handled this trial? How does Jesus contrast with the religious leaders, and what does it say about His kingdom?

Wednesday | Romans 13:1-4
We live with our feet in two realms: the temporal and eternal. God has given power to government in the temporal, even as God controls all things. Christians seek to honor God and government (and in that order). What good things are accomplished by governments? How does knowing that God put leaders in place help us to honor and respect the position they have? How can Christians carry themselves respectfully in the political arena?

Thursday | Romans 13:5-10
Ultimately, our worldly “politic” flows from our heavenly politic to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves. Do you agree that “love” is the best law? Why or why not? Define what God means by love. And then consider: how can we as Christians do a better job of bringing God’s love into our political conversations and actions?

Friday | Psalm 33:10-22
People throughout history have been tempted to seek salvation outside of God. The “nation” that is blessed are those who trust in God alone- and that nation is the Church. We believe our citizenship is first and foremost in God’s kingdom. How does our trust in God orient us in this life and the next? What are the “horses” that people might put their trust in today? How can we pray for our nation, with this passage in mind?
